How Formal Should Your Personal Letter Be?

personal letters

In order to decide on what kind of letter you intend to write you have to acknowledge who the recipient is going to be. If you have known someone for years, perhaps a friend, neighbor, or family member then your letter writing can be casual. How formal will depend on your relationship with the recipient? If you are writing to a government official, prospective employer, dignitary, academic official, or anyone else with whom you hope to have a professional relationship, the letter should be formal. It should be ideally written on headed paper with the name of the person and organization, plus reference numbers at the top of the page. If you are writing to your current employer, a co-worker, you don’t see socially, a distant or elderly relative, or someone you don’t know very well, it should probably be semiformal.

We can design bespoke letterheads on your behalf, this will be an extra charge or you can make do with the ready-made templates at £5.00 each and if you want our help in writing for you then for 1000 words it will cost £25.
